Erstad confident he can do the job
New Nebraska coach Darin Erstad loves when people say he can’t do something.
Erstad said he knows some in college baseball don’t think he’s qualified for the job after working one year as a volunteer assistant. While he said his 14 years in the major leagues should count for something, he simply plans to prove them wrong without lashing out.

The dead battery wasn’t too surprising, though, there was a lot to talk about.
The 2-time American League All-Star, and World Series champion, was introduced on Thursday as the new head baseball coach at the University of Nebraska, his alma mater, where he starred for three seasons before being the No. 1 pick in the 1995 Major League Baseball draft.

The Jamestown native has been hired as an assistant baseball coach at the University of Nebraska, where he starred as a player from 1993-95 before becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the 1995 Major League Baseball draft by the then California Angels.

Miguel Olivo homered on the first pitch in the 11th inning and the Kansas City Royals beat the Houston Astros 4-3 Wednesday night.
Olivo’s shot against Jeff Fulchino (2-3) ricocheted off the railing in center field and bounced back onto the field. It was his 11th homer and gave the Royals their second straight win after they broke a five-game losing streak with Tuesday’s win in the series opener.
