GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Supporters of the University of North Dakota's retired nickname made one last push to restore the Fighting Sioux moniker Thursday in front of a three-judge appeals panel in St. Paul, Minn.
Attorneys representing the NCAA and Fighting Sioux nickname backers who sued the association could present oral arguments before the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals by mid-October, according to scheduling documents submitted to the court.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's secretary of state says the referendum petitions to restore the University of North Dakota's Fighting Sioux nickname have more than 400 fewer signatures than first advertised.
Attorneys will come together in a Grand Forks courtroom again Tuesday to spar over whether Fighting Sioux nickname supporters should be able to solicit petition signatures inside Ralph Engelstad Arena.
