Letter to the editor: Right-wing media have been deceptive over health care
This past week Fox News, specifically Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck, have railed against President Barack Obama and his health care policy. Hannity warned that we should check how often “this liberal President” uses the words “social justice.” If social justice issues make me a liberal Democrat, then I’m proud to be a liberal Democrat. Our churches have always promoted social justice.By Imelda Long , April 14, 2010
Fox’s fairly imbalanced pro-Muslim influence
Should Fox News register with the State Department as a foreign agent — an agent of Saudi Arabia? First off, is that a farfetched question? Not when a leading member of the ruling family of the Sharia-totalitarian “kingdom” of Saudi Arabia, Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, has made himself the second-largest shareholder of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., Fox News’ parent company.By Diana West, Washington Times , February 10, 2010
The red fox vs. the coyote
Red foxes used to be plentiful east of the Missouri River in North Dakota when I was growing up in the 1950s and ‘60s, but during the last few decades coyotes have displaced foxes on the landscape. I have read that foxes hunt a smaller area more intensely than does a coyote, so this may be advantageous to game birds and other prey pursued by these predators.January 08, 2010

World Series ratings rebound from poor ‘08
World Series television ratings bounced back from last year’s record lows. The Yankees’ six-game victory over the Phillies on Fox averaged an 11.7 rating and 19 share. That’s the highest since a 15.8/26 in 2004, when the Red Sox swept the Cardinals to end an 86-year championship drought.November 06, 2009
Obama outs Fox, but shows a flaw
Surely President Barack Obama and his advisors don’t really think that their feud with Fox News will do anything but enhance the cable network’s viewership. A deeper problem is what the flap over Fox reveals about Team Obama: They still seem to be more comfortable with campaigning than governing.By Clarence Page, Chicago Tribune , October 27, 2009
White House weakened by war on Fox
Presidents usually turn to their secretaries of state for foreign-policy advice. But Barack Obama must have been channeling Hillary Clinton when he decided to attack Fox News.By Steve and Cokie Roberts , October 24, 2009
Van Jones and the Beck boycott
Glenn Beck was mad. He’s the right-wing talk-radio host who has a television program on the Fox News Channel. Advertisers were fleeing his Fox program en masse after the civil-rights group Color of Change mounted a campaign urging advertisers to boycott Beck, who labeled President Barack Obama a “racist.” As the campaign progressed, Beck began his attacks against Van Jones. Jones was appointed by Obama in March to be special adviser for green jobs. He co-founded Color of Change four years ago. After weeks of attacks from Beck, Jones resigned his position at the White House last Sunday.By Amy Goodman, Hearst Newspapers , September 11, 2009
