Organizers of an annual beach party fundraiser in Garrison said this year’s proceeds will go to Minot flood victims.
The event was held Saturday at Fort Stevenson State Park. Officials said the party typically raises up to $4,000 for selected groups.
Garrison Diversion’s regular quarterly board of directors meeting will be held in conjunction with the North Dakota Water Resource Districts Association annual summer meeting and the 2010 executive briefing on July 12-14 at the Holiday Inn in Minot, with registration beginning July 12. The executive briefing will cover state flooding.
The amount of water in reservoirs behind Oahe and Garrison dams in the Dakotas remains above normal.
The Army Corps of Engineers said Lake Oahe ended December at 1,607.4 feet, 14 1/2 feet higher than a year ago. It is expected to fall less than half a foot in January.
At its semi-annual meeting, the Garrison Diversion Recreation Committee awarded a total of $120,209 in matching recreation grants. Nine applicants received grant approval for their recreational projects, which varied from improving parks and campsites to development of the North Country Trail.
