North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple sent a letter Tuesday to President Barack Obama requesting a federal disaster declaration to help 16 counties and the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation recover from spring flooding.
Jack Dalrymple served a decade as North Dakota’s lieutenant governor and two years ago moved into the governor’s mansion when John Hoeven was elected to the U.S. Senate. Now, according to a Forum Communications poll, Dalrymple appears poised to handily win election to the office he has held since 2010.

North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple is mulling a request to remove the Pembina County state's attorney on allegations he has neglected prosecutions, skipped county meetings, ignored requests for legal advice and been rude to county employees.
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Gov. Rick Perry has invited the nation’s governors to join him in a prayer day to seek God’s guidance to deal with the problems facing America.
The day for prayer and fasting is planned for Aug. 6 in Houston and is sponsored by the American Family Association, a Christian advocacy group. The organization’s website says the event is intended to be a non-denominational, apolitical, Christian prayer service.

BISMARCK — A Fargo architect considering a run for governor thinks he could beat Republican Gov. Jack Dalrymple and speculated Democratic challenger Heidi Heitkamp.
Paul Sorum, 49, said he’s received “just an outpouring” of calls, emails and letters from people asking him to run for governor. Sorum, a Republican, lost the party’s nomination for U.S. Senate last year to John Hoeven.
