The National Weather Service has increased the odds of high water on the rivers of the James River basin in a new forecast issued Thursday.
The forecast now calls for an 81 percent chance of major flooding on the James River at Grace City. This is an increase from a 10 percent possibility listed in a Dec. 21 forecast. A flood stage of 15 feet is considered a major flood at Grace City.
Grace City never trailed, while the Jamestown Tarno Tigers dug out of an early hole on the opening day of the state amateur tournament at Jack Brown Stadium.
Curt Jacobson spun a three-hit shutout as Grace City sailed through Mantador 6-0 in the Class A opener.
In AA action, the Tarno Tigers trailed 5-3 after two innings, but scored 11 of the last 13 runs of the game to beat the Edgeley All-Stars 14-7.
