VALLEY CITY, N.D. — Members of the North Dakota Department of Transportation and law enforcement officials from Ashley to Wahpeton met here Thursday to announce to the launch of a new program to combat intoxicated driving.
The Regional Driving Under the Influence Task Force Program will start Oct. 1 with required quarterly saturation checkpoints in the southeast Jamestown region, which encompasses Eddy, Foster, Griggs, Stutsman, Barnes, LaMoure, Logan, McIntosh and Dickey counties.
Allowing a nonprofit group that develops duck nesting grounds to keep 527 acres of Griggs County property could weaken North Dakota’s restrictions on corporate ownership of agricultural land, an attorney told the state Supreme Court.

The Griggs County community of Cooperstown is starting a bow hunting season to try to control a growing deer herd on its golf course.
It’s open to young people and adults as long as they have an archery deer license.
The Griggs County Sheriff’s Office is advising that Griggs County roads and highways are in very poor condition due to the spring flooding and current storm.
The office is recommending motorists restrict their driving to essential travel only.
A man convicted of shooting at a home in rural Griggs County last April has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Griggs County sheriff Bob Hooks said 35-year-old Darin Dahl kicked a chair, sat on the courtroom floor and threw a pen at Southeast District Judge James Bekken at sentencing last week.
