SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A state-of-the-art $109 million health center is set to open in Eagle Butte, S.D., next month, providing members of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe with a major upgrade from the circa-1959 hospital it has long outgrown.
Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, N.D., and MeritCare Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo, are grant recipients of the 2009-2011 Colorectal Cancer Screening Initiative, according to Joyce Sayler, program director with the North Dakota Department of Health’s Comprehensive Cancer Prevention and Control Program.
The president of the board of Fargo Oak Grove Lutheran School said a $1.25 million gift will go toward a new health center.
The gift comes from Fargo entrepreneur Shelly Ellig, the 81-year-old owner of the Stop-N-Go franchise.
