WASHINGTON (AP) — A gun control group is targeting Sen. Heidi Heitkamp with print ads after the North Dakota Democrat spoke critically about gun restrictions being considered by the Obama Administration.
FARGO – Trailing Democrat Heidi Heitkamp by less than 1 percentage point with all precincts reporting in North Dakota's closely watched U.S. Senate race, U.S. Rep. Rick Berg refused to concede the race pending the outcome of the official vote canvassing and left the door open to a possible recount.
FARGO — As farmers mingled and salivated over new tractors at the recent Big Iron event in West Fargo, U.S. Senate candidate Heidi Heitkamp stood in front of a roomful of reporters in Schollander Pavilion and blasted her Republican opponent for not being able to convince House leadership to call a vote on the farm bill.

BISMARCK — A Fargo architect considering a run for governor thinks he could beat Republican Gov. Jack Dalrymple and speculated Democratic challenger Heidi Heitkamp.
Paul Sorum, 49, said he’s received “just an outpouring” of calls, emails and letters from people asking him to run for governor. Sorum, a Republican, lost the party’s nomination for U.S. Senate last year to John Hoeven.

Former North Dakota Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp says she has been encouraged to run for governor in 2012, but won’t decide until after this fall’s election.
“To everything there is a season. You kind of have to decide, what is the passion I have today? A lot of the things I cared about deeply when I ran in 2000 are still issues today. That always motivates me,” Heitkamp said Monday before making a speech in Moorhead encouraging young people to run for office.

I was not at all surprised to see former North Dakota Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp decide against running for the U.S. Senate this year against the presumed Republican candidate, Gov. John Hoeven.
In my opinion, Heitkamp’s announcement leaves the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party without a credible or a viable candidate to make the race against the immensely popular, three-term governor.
