Jeff Gordon, for at least a decade, was the biggest star in NASCAR.
He dominated the sport on the track, steamrolling his way to 47 victories and his first three championships over a four-year span during which he was nearly unbeatable. And he transformed NASCAR away from the track, becoming the first driver to dazzle Madison Avenue and earn mainstream endorsement opportunities that the entire industry ultimately benefited from.
Getting Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s team back on track is Rick Hendrick’s top priority now that Jimmie Johnson has his record fourth consecutive NASCAR championship.
“We’re all over it, and we’ve been all over it,” Hendrick said Tuesday in a conference call. “It’s my primary focus here, starting Monday.”
Mark Martin will make one final effort to win the NASCAR championship that’s eluded him the past 26 years by driving for storied Hendrick Motorsports next season.
