Historical society receives grant
The state’s history agency, the State Historical Society of North Dakota, has been awarded a $238,000 grant, in collaboration with other partners, to work to enhance collections care throughout North Dakota and South Dakota. Other partners the SHSND will work with are the North Dakota Library Association, the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, the South Dakota State Historical Society, the Association of South Dakota Museums and the South Dakota State Library.May 11, 2011
Groups awarded Cultural Heritage Grants
The State Historical Society of North Dakota has awarded $134,000 in Cultural Heritage Grants to distribute for the coming year to 24 eligible organizations throughout the state. A total of 65 organizations from all areas of North Dakota applied for the grants from the State Historical Society, requesting a total of $540,000.May 20, 2010
Lions supporting center expansion
On Oct. 30, the delegates to the 2008 State Lions Convention passed a resolution to support the expansion of the North Dakota Heritage Center in Bismarck. The resolution asked each local Lions Club to consider a pledge for five years to the State Historical Society of North Dakota Foundation in support of the expansion plans.March 10, 2009
Old Traill County bridge to be restored
A Traill County bridge that’s believed to be among the oldest in North Dakota is slated for restoration. The state Department of Transportation and the State Historical Society of North Dakota are working together on the $700,000 project to restore the Viking Bridge.March 10, 2009

The state’s history agency is seeking public comment on the use of historic preservation funds it receives from the National Park Service. The state’s history agency, the State Historical Society of North Dakota, has launched its newly redesigned Web site at www.history.nd.gov, which features improved navigation and gives users with a new Web experience. “We are excited about the launch of our new Web site and all that it offers to visitors, from the casual reader to the dedicated researcher,” said SHSND Director Merl Paaverud.February 05, 2009

The State Historical Society has grand plans. That’s why it’s unveiling an expansion plan for the Heritage Center in Bismarck. The society is proposing a 97,0000 square-foot expansion with an estimated price tag of $52.4 million.
