West Fargo teachers and school officials have declared an impasse in their contract negotiations.
Teacher pay is the main sticking point, after four months of meetings.
Don Wolf is the lead negotiator for the teachers. He said it’s disappointing to have come so far and then have it fall apart.
School Board President Tom Gentzkow said he felt let down. He said it’s “disheartening” to see a deadlock.
Three observers appointed by the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction presided over an impasse hearing at Montpelier Public School Thursday. The event was attended by members of the School Board, eight to 10 school staff members and approximately 15 members of the public, according to Lynn Krueger, superintendent of the Montpelier school.
“The teachers and the school board have been at an impasse in negotiations since mid-April,” Krueger said. “The teachers are back in the classroom now without a contract.”
