North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm said home and business owners should make sure their property is adequately insured. Western North Dakota’s oil boom has driven commercial and residential property values up significantly in the last few years, which could mean property may be underinsured, he said.
North Dakota ranks among the states with near-monopolistic health insurance markets, a study by the American Medical Association shows.
Concentration of health insurance among a handful of firms sets up conditions that lead to higher premium costs and less generous benefits, the study said.
