The Stutsman County Zoning Commission voted to deny a request for a variance to the wind farm zoning application fee requested by Just Wind during a brief meeting Thursday morning.
However, miscommunication prevented representatives from Just Wind from attending and will result in another meeting next week to reconsider the action.
The construction of the Just Wind project at Napoleon has yet to get under way more than a month after it missed a planned start date. Jeff Metzger, president of Just Wind, had announced a planned start of the third week of June at a meeting of the Stutsman County Commission on wind farm zoning on June 16.
Just Wind plans to start construction on the first phase of its Logan County wind farm this month, according to Jeff Metzger, president of the company.
“We look to start construction in the third week of June,” he said. “Our goal is to have 20 foundations complete in 60 days.”
One can hardly turn on the news, or pick up the paper and not see, hear and/or read something about renewable energy. Gov. John Hoeven, in his 2007 State of the State Address, said, “Today, many states are adopting a goal to derive 25 percent of our nation’s energy from renewable by 2025.” Just Wind, as a large-scale, community-owned wind farm development group, is in the process of developing six potential projects in North Dakota.
