Sears in Bemidji has no plans of closing, despite the recent announcement from Sears Holding Corp. to close between 100 and 120 Sears and Kmart stores after poor sales were reported during the holidays, the most crucial time of the year for retailers.
“Bemidji is not on this list,” store owner and manager Ronald Bodenheimer said.

Once a mainstay in American shopping culture, the parent of Sears and Kmart stores took another step backward Thursday, announcing a surprising second-quarter loss that dimmed hopes about the ailing merchant’s future.
Most of the 35 area youngsters poured into Kmart Sunday evening, ready to “Shop with a Cop.”
Some of them knew what they wanted to buy and others scoped out every toy aisle trying to choose. It was hard to tell who was having more fun, the children or the county sheriff’s deputies, correctional and police officers and Highway Patrol troopers who were with them.
