Four teams tied for the top spot in Week 11 of the Stutsman County Fishing League on Tuesday.
Overall leader Stan’s Bait & Tackle, led by Ryan Krueger, was one of three teams with nine points on the night.
Golf is a lifelong sport in which athletes learn problem-solving, honesty and manners in addition to how to play the game.
That’s the philosophy of organizers of Sticks for Kids program, a summer golf league for children ages 8-18. Hillcrest golf course and Jamestown Country Club partnered for the league, giving students a chance to learn the rules and etiquette of the game as well as how to play both stroke and match play. The league begins June 13. Registration before June 1 is $10, after is $20.
M&M and team captain Mike Gums finished as the Stutsman County Wildlife Fishing League champion.
M&M finished with 119 points, 17 better than runner-up Stan’s Bait & Tackle led by Ryan Krueger. Dion Schlenker’s Neon Dion was third with 67.
Buffalo Builders and Buckaroos tied for fourth with 62 points.
Eleven teams competed in the season.
Ron Marsolek’s Buckaroo’s took top honors in Week 11 of the Stutsman County Fishing League.
Marsolek’s group scored 26 points, finishing well ahead of runner-up M&M (13), led by Mike Gums in the second-to-last week of the league. Fish Hawks (11) and Neon Dion (10) were also in double figures.
Pete Koble’s Hitch Hikers had the top score (18) in Week 8 of the Stutsman County Fishing League.
Brian Ryberg and the Fish Hawks placed second for the week with 14 points.
M&M and leader Mike Gums and Dion Schlenker’s crew also were in double figures with 12 and 10, respectively.
The Summit League — targeted as a long-term Division I home for UND’s athletic programs — will discuss the school’s application to join the 10-team conference in June.
UND athletic director Brian Faison said he talked to Summit commissioner Tom Douple on Thursday. Douple told the UND athletic director that the school’s application to join the Summit will be discussed at a June meeting of league presidents.
