Letter to the editor: School Board members need to change their ways
As a former Jamestown Public School Board member, I have tried to remain quiet about the actions of a number of our current School Board members. I know it is not an easy job trying to balance the needs of students, staff and taxpayers. It takes a lot of effort if you are going to be successful and do the job right.By Ken Astrup, Jamestown , May 06, 2013
Letter to the editor: Senators’ votes on gun law were disappointing
I am very disappointed with the votes Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D, and Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., made on the background check amendment.By Susan Beehler, Mandan, N.D. , April 22, 2013
Letter to the editor: Jamestown College play was ‘delightful’
The Jamestown College production of “The Imaginary Invalid” was a delightful play, if only I could have fast-forwarded through the commercials.By Georgia Miller, Jamestown , April 15, 2013
Letter to the editor: Fargo diversion project is not the best option against floods
I am compelled to tell my fellow North Dakotans about the grand scheme that Fargo is trying to sell to the Legislature. If sold, North Dakota taxpayers will be on the hook for at least $562 million of the full amount of the scheme, $2 billion.By Todd Toppen, Horace, N.D. , April 08, 2013
Letter to the editor: All Iraq war did was kill Iraqi people and waste money
Long after President George H. W. Bush’s march into Iraq to prevent Saddam Hussein from taking over oil-rich Kuwait and baby Bush’s seeking revenge for his daddy’s unfinished work by finishing off bad ol’ Saddam, I was wondering what our peace-loving action has produced, which is not much according to Iraqi-American writer and activist Jonathon Azaziah.By Cory Christofferson, Hamar, N.D. , April 08, 2013
Letter to the editor: Article on Heitkamp’s stance was too much opinion

Letter to the editor: Twitter is a great way for lawmakers to reach voters
I’m writing in response to Rep. Al Carlson’s recent letter to the editor decrying the use of social media by elected officials. For several reasons I disagree with him.By Molly McLain, Jamestown , March 26, 2013
Letter to the editor: Legislature right to pass bills to block abortions
We applaud our North Dakota Legislature for passing some of the most pro-woman and pro-life health laws in our nation with the intent to uphold the sanctity of human life in our great state. For all the criticism these bills have received from the secular media and pro-abortion supporters, these sources have failed to respond to the one question that defines why the good people of North Dakota are pursuing this type of legislation.By Amanda Ellerkamp, Dickinson, N.D., and Rachelle Sauvageau, Fargo, N.D. , March 26, 2013
Letter to the editor: ‘Personhood’ bill is intrusion by government into health
I’ve never been more confused; what does the North Dakota Republican Party stand for? I understood Republicans believed in less government involvement, personal responsibility, fiscal restraint to leave more money in the people’s pocket. I get that, but here are just a few examples Republican legislators don’t.By Tanya Stebbins, Coleharbor, N.D. , March 26, 2013
Letter to the editor: Let the FDA worry about electronic cigarettes, chew
After receiving a 12-1 do not pass recommendation from the House Human Services Committee, HCR 3033 passed the North Dakota House by one vote.By Eric L. Johnson, MD, Grand Forks , March 26, 2013
Letter to the editor: Give oil companies incentive to stop excessive flaring
Flaring of natural gas in western North Dakota is out of control. We can monitor the expanding oil development and excessive waste in the Bakken compliments of nighttime satellite images of North America.By Lillian Jones, Fargo, N.D. , March 25, 2013

Letter to the editor: People should have health care like Congress has
Amen to term limits. Thank you, Caroline Eli. Because, as I have written before, Congress works less than half a year, and of that time, only three hours a day is spent on the people’s business.By Hazel L. Scott, Jamestown , March 04, 2013
