The Marion Horizon’s Beautification Committee is taking orders until Nov. 6 for Marion residents who would like free boulevard replacement trees. Boulevard trees are trees that will be planted parallel to the city streets within the city right-of-way (33 feet from the center of the street).

Marion headed to Toronto for O’Neal

Shawn Marion’s most memorable play with the Miami Heat was his last. Hours after Marion’s last-second dunk lifted the Heat past the Chicago Bulls, he was traded Friday to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Jermaine O’Neal, ending a weekslong saga involving the expected deal. Honkers rally past Rebels

It wasn’t the way they would have liked it to end, but the 2008 volleyball season will surely be one to remember for the Litchville-Marion-Montpelier Rebels. After wrapping up a perfect regular season of head-to-head play and winning the Region 3 crown, the Rebels took some of the best teams in the state to the wire to capture a fourth-place finish in the state Class B girls’ volleyball tournament Saturday.

Sens. Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad and Rep. Earl Pomeroy announced Friday that federal grants totaling $581,048 have been awarded to five North Dakota fire departments to help boost their ability to respond to emergencies in their communities. The Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grants are aimed at enhancing response capabilities and allowing departments to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public. The grants are used for training, to conduct health and safety programs, and to buy equipment and response vehicles. Among the fire departments in North Dakota receiving the grants was the Marion Rural Fire Department which was awarded $80,275.
