CHICAGO (AP) — McDonald’s lesson from July: If you want to start selling cold, fruity drinks, pick one of the hottest months in U.S. history.
The fast-food giant posted its biggest monthly increase in more than a year in an important U.S. sales figure as U.S. as the fast-food chain’s new fruit smoothies and ice-cold frappes got a warm reception from customers.
CHICAGO (AP) — Net income climbed 12 percent at McDonald’s Corp. in the second quarter as customers around the globe gobbled up its cheap food and U.S. diners responded to its profitable frappes and other drinks on its hit McCafe menu.
Cadmium has been discovered in the painted design on “Shrek”-themed drinking glasses being sold nationwide at McDonald’s, forcing the burger giant to recall 12 million of the cheap U.S.-made collectibles while dramatically expanding contamination concerns about the toxic metal beyond imported children’s jewelry.
McDonald’s will open its new building at 817 20th St. S.W. on Oct. 30 after closing on July 19 for a remodel, said Brian Lind, owner of Jamestown McDonald’s. The old building opened in 1978. The new building will offer a new layout, roof, improved drive-through service and more efficient systems, Lind said in an e-mail.
From the fields of Idaho to tasting rooms in suburban Chicago, potato farmers, researchers and industry representatives are in the midst of an elusive hunt: finding a new spud for McDonald’s french fries.
