JC women contender at DAC meet

Jim Clark has been the women’s track and field coach at Jamestown College for more than three decades, so when he says things like “most rewarding” and “a season I will cherish” about his current team, that’s a pretty good indication of the kind of indoor season it has been. The Jimmies are in Spearfish, S.D., today for the two-day Dakota Athletic Conference meet and are expected to be in a three-way showdown for the DAC title.

Speed was the word of the weekend at the state swimming meet in Grand Forks. All 10 teams in Grand Forks had at least 74 percent improvement, including Jamestown High School, which finished its season with a 90 percent drop in time.

The Jamestown High School contingent at the state tennis meet in Fargo is still alive. Cally Musland split her two matches on Friday, while the doubles team of Sam Kemmet and Tania Bjone also went 1-1. Wins in their first match today would send both Musland and the doubles team into the consolation championship matches.

Killoran falls just short of record again

Two years later, Whitney Carlson is still a thorn in Kristen Killoran’s side. The Maple Valley-Enderlin senior came up with another big performance in the Class B girls’ long jump at the North Dakota state track meet at the Bismarck Community Bowl on Friday. But she still came up an inch away from the state overall record set by the Carrington star in 2006. “It’s kind of frustrating, and that’s the second time now,” Killoran said with a laugh. “But to lose by an inch to a girl like Whitney isn’t bad. She’s amazing.”
