The opening night of the 2010 Class B boys’ Stutsman County Tournament has come and gone, and according to the seeding there were no surprises at the Jamestown Civic Center on Thursday night.
Top-seeded LaMoure rolled past Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal 63-32 in the first quarterfinal of the evening, and then it was fourth-seeded and two-time defending champion Central Prairie’s turn with a 65-55 win over Edgeley-Kulm.
In the night bracket, No. 2-seeded Ellendale skated past Midkota 61-40, and No. 3-seeded Carrington wrapped up Day 1 with a 54-37 win over Kidder County.
Central Prairie posted a 9-3 win over Midkota-Barnes County North-Griggs County Central in Class B baseball on Tuesday.
The Firebirds’ Michael Heinrich tripled and drove in two runs. Nic Moser and August Heupel doubled, and Heupel picked up the win on the mound.
Midkota was finally able to get its first game of the season in and opened with a 3-1 win over Lakota in Tolna on Monday.
Nic Harding was nearly unhittable on the mound for the Mustangs, getting 16 strikeouts in a complete-game effort. He allowed just two hits and walked three.
Wells County will look to ride a little momentum into the District 7 tournament after defeating Midkota 50-40 in Friday night’s play-in game.
Midkota was able to keep the deficit in the single digits for much of the game, but hurt themselves sending the Bears to the free throw line 27 times — which was 19 more trips than Midkota made.
