Jamestown’s Big 3 is still in the hunt for a handful of state titles after Friday’s preliminary round of the state boys’ swimming meet in Grand Forks.
Junior Willy Marler had the best preliminary time in the 100 freestyle and was second in the 50 free.
Amy Miller Ludwikoski, 44, Fargo, N.D., formerly of Jamestown, died Friday, July 30, 2010, at Sanford Hospital, Fargo.
Amy Sue Miller was born March 25, 1966, in Grand Forks, N.D., the daughter of Jim and Marilyn (Iverson) Miller.
Jamestown’s Big 3 had their eyes set on returning home with a few state titles, but those hopes are going to have to wait another year.
Willie Marler, Landon Ostlie and Chasen Miller each swam in two individual events and a couple relay events Saturday in the state swimming meet in Mandan, but the strong field of swimmers got the best of the Blue Jays.
Ostlie nearly claimed the 200 individual medley title, but was edged out by Fargo North’s Obi Obembe by .45 seconds. Ostlie, however, broke the school record with a time of 2:01.69.

Just a sophomore, Marler has proven to be the top sprinter in the state this season, and can settle any debate on the topic once and for all this weekend at the state swimming and diving championships in Grand Forks, beginning with the prelims today at the Hyslop Sports Center on the campus of UND.
It looks like the international hockey world got a glimpse of what the Buffalo Sabres have known all along about goalie Ryan Miller: This guy is really good.
“We know him in this room, and we’ll take him over any other goaltender right now in the game,” Sabres backup goalie Patrick Lalime said Monday. “He just showed the whole world what he can do.”
