Horton to discuss mission work
Tom Horton of Fargo will describe the work of Medical Mission Ecuador at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service Zion United Church of Christ, Medina. Horton, who is a physician assistant in the Sanford Health System, Fargo, returned last week from a periodic medical mission to Ecuador. He is part of a medical team that provides needed specialized health services to the people of Ecuador through the non-profit organization Medical Mission Ecuador. Horton is a graduate of University of Arkansas with a degree in emergency medicine. He is a registered physician assistant and has worked in hospitals in St. Paul, Minn., and Fargo. He is married to Lavonne Heupel, the daughter of Ray and Mary Heupel, Medina.February 25, 2011

The scheduled federal environmental impact hearing Monday in Grand Forks on several Air Force options to restrict airspace over much of northeast North Dakota to facilitate the proposed mission of unmanned aerial vehicles at Grand Forks Air Force Base had to be postponed at the last minute. Seems the manned aerial vehicles scheduled to carry federal administrative judges to the hearing couldn’t get out of airspace on the East Coast and over Minneapolis because of winter weather.By By Stephen J. Commander discusses base changes
The commander of the Grand Forks Air Force Base says he expects to lose 44 percent of the base’s aircraft and 48 percent of the air crew in the next six months as the base makes a transition from refueling tankers to unmanned aerial vehicles. Two flying squadrons also will be inactivated before next June. “We’re in a very rapid drawdown now,” Col. John Michel told school board members from Grand Forks and the Grand Forks Air Force Base in a meeting Monday night.November 26, 2008

Jamestown Conference hosting mission event
The Jamestown Conference is hosting a synod-wide mission event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 in at Trinity Lutheran Church, 523 Fourth Ave. S.W. The event will include group sessions with mission speakers and global music, four 50-minute workshop sessions with multiple choices, displays and hand-crafted African items for sale by Asante Network of Valley City. The noon lunch will feature ethnic food from mission countries. The event is intergenerational with activities for all ages. Youth go on mission trip
Ten youth and four adults from St. Paul’s United Methodist and First United Methodist churches went on a mission trip to Juarez, Mexico, June 13-22. They joined with 166 other youth and adults from the Dakotas in Spearfish, S.D., to travel to Juarez where they built cement block houses for 17 families. They also cleaned up a church mission area and pulled up fence.July 15, 2008

J.A.M.M. hosts youth at YMCA
On March 26 the United Presbyterian Church J.A.M.M. hosted youth throughout the Jamestown community at the YMCA to celebrate the conclusion of the Mission March – the Youth Unite rally. Children and youth participated in songs, games, lessons, prayer, and were treated to “gutter sundaes.” More than 160 youth attended and learned how one person can make a difference in the lives of others.April 18, 2008
