Kansas City was announced Wednesday as the host site for the only advance public screenings of a film chronicling the rise of Jackie Robinson, a nod to the city where the baseball great made his professional debut two years before breaking the major league color barrier.
Though “Promised Land,” the new film that takes on the controversial process of “fracking,” opens in wide release across the country today, moviegoers in North Dakota’s Oil Patch won’t be able to see it anytime soon.

Canadian producer-filmmaker Coleen Rajotte was in East Grand Forks on Friday to produce a segment for “Vitality Gardening,” a program that features information about growing healthy food in a variety of climates and then using it for meals and medicinal purposes.

The estate of Michael Jackson is taking issue with a documentary that is to debut in Japan on the anniversary of the pop star’s death on Friday.
Most of the footage in the film was shot by Marc Schaffel, a former business partner who had a major falling out with Jackson in a messy trial in which they sued each other four years ago.
The Alfred Church of God (7th) Day is holding a special release showing of a movie, “No Greater Love,” at 2 p.m. Sunday.
This is a story where God intervenes in a series of events to bring two people together and to complete the promises they made when they said, “I do.” (The trailer of the movie trailer may be viewed on the Internet at www.nogreaterlovethemovie.com).
