The latest flood forecast from the National Weather Service indicates a higher probability of flooding on the James River and Pipestem Creek this spring. The forecast was issued this morning and does indicate “at least some minor flooding is a near certainty in all basins and the probability of major flooding is substantial.”
The National Weather Service wants to double the size of its local weather observer team in the Red River Valley in an effort to more accurately predict the flooding this spring.
The weather service in Grand Forks currently has a team of 79 local weather observers, who record and report information such as snow fall, snow depth and snow water content.
