A small patch of prairie sits largely unnoticed off a desolate road in southwestern South Dakota, tucked amid gently rolling hills and surrounded by dilapidated structures and hundreds of gravesites — many belonging to Native Americans massacred more than a century earlier.
Moment after nail-biting moment, the events shoved us through a week that felt like an unremitting series of tragedies: Deadly bombs. Poison letters. A town shattered by a colossal explosion. A violent manhunt that paralyzed a major city, emptying streets of people and filling them with heavily armed police and piercing sirens.
Here's a little secret for all you procrastinators on Tax Day: The Internal Revenue Service doesn't like to talk about it, but as long as you don't owe any additional taxes, there is no penalty for filing a few days late.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) has issued a Travel Alert for southeast North Dakota including the cities of Jamestown, Ellendale, Edgeley, Valley City, Wahpeton, Fargo, Hillsboro and surrounding areas. Conditions are such that motorists can still travel in these areas, but should be advised that heavy snow and blowing snow is causing reduced visibility and icy conditions. Motorists are encouraged to reduce speeds and drive according to the conditions.
