Jamestown High School’s Brooke Lukach, Andrew Peterson and Chasen Miller, along with Jamestown College’s Katie O’Neill and Kelly Roemmich, were recently selected as the Jamestown Optimist Club’s athletes of the week.
Lukach, a junior gymnast for the Blue Jays, placed in the top four in all four of her events at the Blue/White meet on Jan. 18. Lukach was second on the beam (8.6) and placed second in the all-around competition (34.1).
Peterson, a senior on the Blue Jay basketball team, hit six three-pointers and finished with 24 points in a 72-63 Jamestown victory against Bismarck St. Mary’s.
During one of the first phone conversations between Mark Wiest and Katie O’Neill, the Jamestown College women’s basketball coach told his potential recruit that it does get pretty cold in North Dakota.
But as O’Neill recalls the conversation, Wiest went on to say, “But it doesn’t snow that much.”
Jamestown Implement has announced Jodi O’Neill as its new Employee of the Week.
O’Neill has worked in the accounting department for nearly 15 years. In the recent week she not only continued to perform well in her normal duties, but due to others’ vacations, performed equally as well with an increased workload, General Manager Jay Pickrel said.
Miah Dabill of Jamestown High School, along with Jamestown College’s Katie O’Neill and John Peabody, have been named Jamestown Optimist Athletes of the Week.
Dabill placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100 backstroke at the West Region swimming meet. Both of her times were career bests. Her time of 1:02.89 qualified her for the all-state second team and her point total from the meet qualified her for the all-conference team.
Katie O’Neill, an all-conference player at Cloud County Community College (Kan.), will continue her college basketball career at Jamestown College.
O’Neill, a native of Melbourne, Australia, was a second-team all-Jayhawk West Conference team selection and was named to the all-conference tournament team. The 5-foot-8 guard averaged 12 points and 5.1 rebounds per game last season. She shot 37 percent from the field and 31 percent (36 for 115) from three-point range, shot 74 percent from the free throw line and totaled 113 assists and 79 steals.
