Mercedes Westereng and Zane Braun of Jamestown High School and Jamestown College’s Maggie Seter and Michael Nord of Jamestown College have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.
Jamestown High School’s Mandi Schilling, Brooke Lukach and Tyler Krenz, along with Jamestown College’s Aleona Reyes and Tim Penner, were all selected as the Jamestown Optimist Club’s athletes of the week.
Schilling, a senior on the Blue Jay girls’ tennis team, went 2-0 to help the Jays defeat Williston 6-3. Schilling won both her singles and doubles matches, and finished the regular season with a record of 4-5 at No. 2 singles.
Jamestown High School’s Kyra Dewald, Landon Ostlie and Willy Marler, along with Jamestown College’s women’s 1600-meter relay team and Perry Wilkinson, were all selected as athletes of the week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.
Jamestown High School’s Melissa McMillan and Dustin Deery, along with Jamestown College’s Justina Luafalemana and Trent Roemmich, have each been selected as Jamestown Optimist Club’s Athletes of the Week.
McMillan, a senior on the Blue Jay girls’ basketball team, tied a Jamestown High School single-game record with seven three-pointers in last week’s 76-60 loss to Mandan. She averaged 17 points per contest over a pair of games last week, while shooting 56 percent (10 of 18) from behind the three-point line and going perfect at the charity stripe.
