A local organization that help flood victims sanitize and renovate their homes is still accepting applications and donations.
The Stutsman County Unmet Needs Committee has raised about half of its $30,000 goal. Officials wouldn’t say how many households had applied for help, but the money re-ceived so far is not enough to help them all, said Beth Dewald, executive director of the Buffalo Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Some lawmakers are a too anxious about what committees they and their fellow legislators will be on for the 2009 Legislature, said the new House majority leader. He’s told them to cool it.
Rep. Al Carlson, R-Fargo, told House Republicans during a caucus meeting, “For people who are wondering what’s going on, take a deep breath. It’ll all work out.”

North Dakota lawmakers took their oaths of office, elected their presiding officers and were assigned desks and parking spaces as the Legislature’s organizational session began Monday.
“Just remember, people, if you didn’t like the seat that you got, think about the person that you ran against. Where are they sitting?” newly elected House Speaker David Monson, R-Osnabrock, told other representatives.
