Jamestown’s Big 3 is still in the hunt for a handful of state titles after Friday’s preliminary round of the state boys’ swimming meet in Grand Forks. Junior Willy Marler had the best preliminary time in the 100 freestyle and was second in the 50 free.March 05, 2011

State swimming & Diving: Ostlie leads Jays with record-breaking day
Jamestown’s Big 3 had their eyes set on returning home with a few state titles, but those hopes are going to have to wait another year. Willie Marler, Landon Ostlie and Chasen Miller each swam in two individual events and a couple relay events Saturday in the state swimming meet in Mandan, but the strong field of swimmers got the best of the Blue Jays. Ostlie nearly claimed the 200 individual medley title, but was edged out by Fargo North’s Obi Obembe by .45 seconds. The holiday break didn’t slow down the Blue Jay boys’ swimming team much. Landon Ostlie placed second overall and JHS finished tied for fifth as a team at the Mandan Pentathlon on Wednesday.
