SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Padres plan to retire Trevor Hoffman’s No. 51 in a ceremony on Aug. 21 after a game against the Florida Marlins.
Hoffman, baseball’s all-time leader with 601 saves, retired in January after playing 18 big league seasons. He’s a special assistant in the Padres’ front office.
Minnesota was down 3-0 against the lowly San Diego Padres for the second time in less than 24 hours when Justin Morneau hit an impressive two-run homer.
An inning later, the game was tied. One more and the Twins had gone ahead.
