Actor G.W. Bailey will share the spotlight Sunday as celebrity king of the Bacchus parade — one the biggest in the run-up to Mardi Gras — with more than two dozen child cancer patients from across the country.
The participants in the 2012 Holiday Dazzle Parade are asked to stop in at Babb’s Coffee House on Monday to get their final instructions for the parade. Parade officials will be handing out position numbers for the floats during the gathering.
The Main Street Downtown Association is planning a meeting on Monday for its Holiday Dazzle Parade participants. The ninth annual parade is scheduled at 7 p.m. Friday. The association hopes it will be bigger than past parades. The association has contacted last year’s and former year’s participants to see if they will again participate in the parade but it also encourages new participants.

Young bicycle riders and their parents celebrated the Fourth of July in downtown Jamestown Wednesday as they are shown here getting ready for the annual Kiddies Bike Parade. As part of the parade, six bikes were given away to participants, courtesy of the Fraternal Order of Police and Walmart.
The annual Kiddies Bike Parade will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday on First Avenue South. This 1 1/2-mile leisurely-paced parade will start at the south parking lot on First Avenue and proceed south on First Avenue to Eighth Street, over to Second Avenue Southeast and then south to and through McElroy Park, ending up at the Sertoma Shelter for prize presentations and treats by the Sertoma Club.
The day after Thanksgiving, the Christmas season will begin in Jamestown with the Holiday Dazzle on Main Parade.
The parade starts at 7 p.m. Friday in McElroy Park, and proceeds up First Avenue. Viewers should stay south of the railroad tracks.
