Republican presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty pitched an economic plan Tuesday that includes deep cuts in personal and business taxes to spur the struggling U.S. economy but would add to deficits in the short term in the hope that badly needed jobs would follow.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Tim Pawlenty on Monday cast himself as the Republican candidate willing to tell the country hard truths as he seeks the presidency, bluntly announcing in corn-dependent Iowa that its prized federal subsidies for ethanol should be phased out.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty was in Grand Forks on Sunday to deliver a keynote speech that ranged from Republican prospects for the November elections to concerns he has about the current direction of the federal government.

A compromise protecting communities downstream from a proposed Fargo-Moorhead flood diversion project appeared Monday night to be headed for legislative approval, but the bill containing the provision is destined for a gubernatorial veto.
An hour before the House began debate on the public works funding bill that contained the flood provision, Gov. Tim Pawlenty sent a letter to lawmakers saying he would veto the entire bill.

On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” the Republican governor told host David Gregory the same thing he has told Minnesota reporters since announcing that he would not run for re-election: “I don’t know what I will do after I am done being governor.”

The Minnesota and North Dakota governors waged a bit of a war in 2003 and 2004 over hunting laws, but now Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty says he is willing to help North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven hunt for votes as he runs for the U.S. Senate.

Last week, a judge ruled Gov. Tim Pawlenty had overstepped his authority when he “unalloted” budget items in order to keep the state financially afloat.
The ruling, which only pertains to a $2.7 million portion of budget, has huge implications for Pawlenty, the Legislature and the state. While it could mean that a governor may not use unallotment as a budgeting strategy, it might also mean the state won’t have enough money to pay the bills.
One of the most anticipated dates on the outdoors calendar rolls around this weekend with the opening of deer season.
It won’t be long now. North Dakota’s firearms deer season opens at noon today, and Minnesota hunters pull the trigger on another season Saturday morning.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty is preparing to launch a national fundraising committee, another signal that the Republican may be positioning himself for a possible 2012 presidential run.
Minnesota State Patrol trooper is back at work after sustaining a minor injury while he was chasing three juveniles allegedly playing pranks outside Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s family home in Eagan.
An Eagan police report says three teenagers rang the doorbell at Pawlenty’s home around 10:30 p.m. last Friday night, then ran off. The trooper gave chase, but fell and injured his hip.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty on Thursday urged fellow Republicans to welcome outsiders into the party ranks, not scorn them, as the GOP rebuilds from defeats that left the White House and Congress in Democratic hands.
