LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — While residents in some Western and Plains states were digging out Friday after an early blast of snow, heavy rain and strong winds that toppled trees, power lines and church steeples lashed parts of the South, leaving one person dead.

Alternative Realities: The Art of the High Plains Reader opens Sept. 3 and runs through Sept. 27 in the Landfield Atrium of Plains Art Museum. The exhibition of 49 favorite High Plains Reader covers is part of the 15th anniversary celebration of the Fargo-Moorhead’s arts and entertainment news weekly. The selection of covers shows the diversity of approaches of Raul Gomez, publisher/co-owner and long-time design editor, along with local artists whom he has collaborated over the years.
Plains Art Museum’s Hannaher’s, Inc. Print Studio was the site of a collaborative printmaking operation when it hosted artist Carl Oltvedt, poet Mark Vinz, printmaker John Volk and Jerry Richardson this summer.
The four worked together to produce a collaborative print that features a poem and landscape. Oltvedt, Vinz, Volk and Richardson will be present at a Broadside Signing Event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24. Hors d’ oeuvres, poetry and jazz by Mark Vinz, Dave Ferreira and Bill Law will also be featured at this free event.
UPTON, Wyo. (AP) — In this tiny town on Wyoming's northern plains, workers feed large piles of aromatic pine chips into a labyrinth of pipes and tanks that process the wood into 200-proof liquid ethanol.
Northern Plains Electric hosted some 220 members at the New Rockford High School on April 2 for its annual meeting, which included a complimentary supper, industry displays, entertainment, a business meeting, an overview of Operation Round Up and a presentation on the potential effects of climate change legislation on the electric industry.
Northern Plains Electric Cooperative is urging all members to attend its district meetings, scheduled in three locations for early February. Board President Tracy Boe said all meetings will feature elections of directors to the Northern Plains board, along with complimentary suppers. Elections will take place during the business meetings, which will also include video presentations and updates from the managers.
