BISMARCK — North Dakota taxable sales and purchases were up $863 million, or 28 percent, during the summer months compared to the same time last year.
Tax Commissioner Cory Fong released the third quarter results Thursday, showing taxable sales and purchases during July, August and September were $3.947 billion.

A proposal from the state Transportation Department and the Aeronautics Commission to trade in two 30-year-old planes for one newer one is on hold.
Representatives of the two agencies told the state Emergency Commission that sharing a new plane would save money. They said the old planes need repairs.
After debate on peripheral issues, the City Council voted 3-1 Monday to approve Allen Enterprises’ purchase of two lots in the I-94 Business Park.
Mayor Clarice Liechty pulled the resolution off the consent agenda saying she had questions about Allen’s project to build a new facility for Buffalo City Diesel in the business park.
Dardis Realty, previously owned and operated since the 1970s by John Dardis, has been sold to Michael Swartz. Dardis Realty is a full-service real estate company offering sales, market analysis and property management. Swartz, originally from Minnesota, was raised in Starbuck, Minn.
The two parties interested in 4 R’s Recycling are expected to make proposals at the Jamestown City Council’s Police, Fire and Public Works Committee meeting, said Charlie Kourajian, City Council member and recycling advocate.
A group that advises Gov. John Hoeven on land purchases by nonprofits is recommending he reject a proposed 598-acre Ducks Unlimited land buy in Kidder County, saying the land would be better off in private ownership.
