While summer may have come to a close, North Dakota’s state parks remain open with camping opportunities available.
Most state parks with year-round staffing offer full camping services, including electrical hookups, campground water, hot showers and camping cabins through September. Selected parks provide electrical hookups throughout the year. Most state park campgrounds will discontinue campsite water service by the end of September and at some, comfort stations and waste stations will be closed. In the event of freeze warnings, water lines may be shut off earlier.
The annual CANDISC bike tour is getting under way in western North Dakota.
CANDISC stands for Cycling Around North Dakota in Sakakawea Country. It starts Sunday at Fort Stevenson State Park. Riders on the 17th tour will cover 422 miles from the state park to Fort Totten and back, returning Saturday.
The American Heart Association seeks North Dakota residents to participate in the North Dakota Heart Walk. The date has been set for 5 p.m. Aug. 13 at Rendezvous Park in West Fargo. Teams are welcome from across the state. The planning of the Heart Walk will be led by Rachel and Chris Lerum, who have lived in the Fargo-Moorhead area for 18 years.
The North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department is offering several Off-Highway Vehicle safety certification classes during July.
The goal of these classes is to educate youth (ages 12-16) in the proper operational methods. Individuals in this age bracket are required by North Dakota law to have an OHV safety certificate in order to operate an OHV on public land if they do not possess a valid driver’s license or learners permit.
A lot of water has run through the channel that links German and East Jefferson lakes since a group of sportsmen with an eye to improving outdoor recreation opportunities in and around the two Le Sueur County lakes gathered to formally organize the German and Jefferson Lake Sportsman’s Club.
