Nething wins District 12 Senate seat by 8 votes
Dave Nething retains his seat as District 12 senator after the completion of a recount Friday. The final results gave Nething, a Republican who has served in the Senate since 1966, an 8-vote margin over Democratic challenger John Grabinger. The final results determined 2,974 votes for Nething and 2,966 votes for Grabinger after the recount committee had ruled on 105 ballots challenged by either Johnson or the representatives of the candidates.By Keith Norman , November 21, 2008

About 3,800 absentee and early voting ballots in the District 12 Senate race were inspected Friday by Noel Johnson, election administrator for Stutsman County, Joel Larson, representing Republican Sen. The closely contested race for the Senate seat from District 12 will enter its final stage at 9 a.m. Friday in the meeting rooms in the basement of the Law Enforcement Center in James-town. The process of recounting the more than 6,000 ballots cast in the race between incumbent Dave Nething and challenger John Grabinger will get under way at that time.
