Kevin Youkilis hit a three-run homer and added an RBI double to help Jon Lester earn his fourth straight victory and lead the Boston Red Sox to a 6-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday night. Lester (4-3) allowed two runs — one earned — on six hits and zero walks, striking out nine for his fifth career complete game.

Lackey went five innings, giving up one run on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Erick Aybar did him one better, handing over bottles of bubbly to those who came from California to see the Los Angeles Angels go for the sweep. Yankees open, close 2010 at Red Sox

The Yankees will open and close the 2010 season against the Red Sox at Fenway Park, just the fifth time in 50 years the rivals both start and finish against each other. Most openers are set for April 5, Major League Baseball said Tuesday. In the past 50 years, the Yankees also opened and closed against Boston in 1960, 1970, 1992 and 2005, according to STATS LLC. The only times they both started and finished in Boston were 1938 and 1950.

Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz became the latest star implicated in baseball’s ever-growing drug scandal, acknowledging Thursday that the players’ union confirmed he tested positive in 2003. Shortly after hitting the go-ahead home run that beat Oakland 8-5, Ortiz responded to a story on The New York Times’ Web site that he and former teammate Manny Ramirez tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs six years ago.

Brad Penny pitched six solid innings after Tim Wakefield won a rain-shortened complete game, and the Boston Red Sox finished a doubleheader sweep of the Minnesota Twins with a 7-3 victory Wednesday night. Wakefield (2-1) tossed a five-hitter for his second consecutive complete game in the opener, a 10-1 victory that was called after seven innings because of rain. Kevin Youkilis, Nick Green and Mike Lowell each hit a two-run homer.
