Repairs completed at dam

Emergency repairs have been completed at a damaged dam in southeast North Dakota to protect against spring flooding. Mike Opat, an engineer with West Fargo-based Moore Engineering Inc., said about 2,000 cubic yards of rock was placed along the Clausen Springs Dam’s eroded spillway. Excavating Inc. of Fargo was awarded the $150,000 emergency contract last month, he said.

VC teens take first in auto repair VALLEY CITY, N.D. — A team from Valley City claimed the top spot Tuesday at a national student auto repair competition in Dearborn, Mich. The two-person team of 18-year-old Jonathan Anderson and 17-year-old McKenzie Nordland beat out competitors from all 50 states at the 61st annual Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills finals held on the front lawn of Ford World Headquarters, according to a news release from the competition.

Hoeven pledges state aid for dam

Gov. John Hoeven announced Friday that the state will provide a total of $2.3 million toward the estimated $3 million needed to repair the Clausen Springs Dam, which was damaged during last spring’s flooding, threatening both the dam’s integrity and the nearby community of Kathryn. The $2.3 million includes $1 million from the North Dakota Game and Fish and $1.3 million from the North Dakota State Water Commission.
