A fleet of the nation’s biggest merchants reported mostly better fourth-quarter profits Tuesday.
The improvements at Target, Sears and Macy’s are mostly a result of stocking holiday shelves cautiously and managing markdowns.
With holiday shopping at full tilt, some area retailers report strong sales. It’s the same from the large retailers to the specialty stores downtown.
“It’s been great, we’ve been busy,” said Randall Kellogg, an assistant manager at Walmart.
It’s already the season for holiday deals with many local retailers discounting prices now instead of waiting for Black Friday, traditionally the day after Thanksgiving.
