I watched with intrigue as a young woman at the next table picked up her teaspoon and expertly slid the edge of it between the emerald green flesh and thin brown skin of half a fuzzy kiwi she held in her other hand.
Slicing red fruit took the left hand of one student and two hands of her teacher.
The job was a messy one, the student said, in reference to the seedy slime on her hands, fingers and plastic cutting board, but at least she wasn’t stirring over the stove. If she was going to feel the heat of salsa, she’d prefer it on her tongue.
A class on making salsa is from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Jamestown Middle School.
Salsa is now the No. 1 condiment in the U.S. Come to this 3-hour class to experience preserving tomato-based salsas. Participants will prepare and preserve two different recipes, one in a pressure canner and one in the hot water bath method.
