Saltier water coming from N.D.’s Devils Lake outlet
North Dakota’s Health Department has changed a water quality rule to allow saltier Devils Lake water to flow nonstop into the Sheyenne River. Right now, the Devils Lake outlet can run as long as sulfate levels in the river itself don’t exceed 450 milligrams per liter of water. The change allows river sulfate levels of up to 750 milligrams per liter.July 16, 2009
Firm to mine salt in N.D.
A Colorado company with backers in Britain has leased more than 5,000 acres in northwestern North Dakota to mine salt and store wind. Denver-based Dakota Salts LLC says it wants to use voids created by mining in Burke County to store compressed air to be sold to wind farms to generate electricity. BISMARCK — Delta Airlines will add daily direct flights from Fargo to Salt Lake City and from Bismarck to Salt Lake City, company President Ed Bastian confirmed in a meeting with state and local officials this morning.
