The Solid Waste and Recycling Summit is scheduled from 1 to 3:30 p.m. July 10 at the North Dakota Farmers Union Conference Center in Jamestown. The event is being hosted by the South Central Dakota Regional Council Board of Directors.
Deb Kantrud, executive director of South Central Dakota Regional Council, spoke at Rotary. Kantrud is new to the Jamestown region. SCDRC covers a nine-county area and provides numerous programs, most generally working with city and county government. It also works with both profit and nonprofit businesses.
The South Central Dakota Regional Council, as one of its new employees said, is one of the best kept secrets in the region.
The SCDRC provides financial and business planning assistance, along with various economic development tools and resources, to a nine-county area. It administers about $350,000 in the federally funded Community Development Block Grant program, with half going toward public infrastructure and the rest into economic development projects. It also has $1 million in revolving loan funds through the Economic Development Administration, another federal program, and $400,000 available in a USDA Intermediary Relending Program.
