Blue Jays’ Schmitz named to All-Star series
Niki Schmitz of Jamestown High School has selected to play in the Class A and B All-Star Volleyball series later this month. Schmitz, a 6-foot middle blocker, earned all-state and all-region honors for the Blue Jays last season, amassing 341 kills, 47 blocks, 172 digs and 45 aces in her senior season.June 03, 2011

Optimist Club cites athletes for awards
The Jamestown Optimist Club honored four athletes as the Athletes of the week. Seniors Niki Schmitz, of the Blue Jay volleyball team, Brooke Lukach, of the Blue Jay swimming and diving team, and Jordan Lynch, of the Blue Jay football team, and sophomore Katie Zent, of the Jimmie volleyball team, and freshman Tom Cooke, of the Jimmie men’s soccer team, were all honored. Schmitz led the Jays to a 3-4 record in the Bismarck High School/Century High School Volleyball Invitational. Jamestown senior grapplers Johnny Schmitz and Shane Gallagher headlined the Blue Jay wrestlers competing at the North Dakota State High School Class A Wrestling Tournament in Fargo on Thursday. Schmitz and Gallagher bowled through the opening day, each with a pair of victories, securing themselves a spot in Friday’s semifinals. Samantha Geisler, Blake Bossingham and Johnny Schmitz of Jamestown High School and Megan Vote and Andrew Stoen of Jamestown College have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club. Geisler, a senior on the Blue Jay girls’ basketball team, scored 19 points in the team’s two wins last week, going 7-for-12 from the field and making three of her six three-point attempts. Schmitz places fifth
John Schmitz was the last Blue Jay standing on Saturday at the Bismarck Rotary Tournament. After going 2-1 at 145 pounds on Friday, Schmitz dropped his opening match on the tournament’s second day. The JHS junior was pinned by top-seeded James Wilson of Rapid City Central 53 seconds into the third period.
