New Scouting center holds dedication

Girl Scouts celebrate birthday
On March 24, the Jamestown Girl Scouts celebrated the 100th birthday of the Girl Scouts of the USA at the Buffalo Mall.
Girl Scouts Founder Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low assembled 18 girls from Savannah, Ga., on March 12, 1912, for a local Girl Scout meeting with the goal of bringing girls out of isolated home environments and into community service and the open air.

Scouts prepare dolls for families in need
Many women get their tresses trimmed at EnStyl Salon, but until Friday, none of their hair was ever plastic.
“Pebbles,” “Bubbles” and about a half-dozen other tiny dolls had their hair primped and primed, curled and cut Friday as part of a Girl Scout project for two real girls working towards their Silver Awards. The dolls are destined for children in need this Christmas.

Four earn Eagle Scout ranking
On Sunday four members of Boy Scout Troop 163 in Jamestown received the highest honor in all of scouting — becoming an Eagle Scout.
Having as many four Scouts earn the honor together is nearly unheard here, said Scoutmaster Keith Domke, before the ceremony at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Girl Scouts have Mexican fiesta
Jamestown area Girl Scouts celebrated Thinking Day recently. Twenty-three Girl Scouts met on a Saturday afternoon for a Mexican fiesta. They learned about Mexico, had nachos and a fruit salsa and participated in the Mexican hat dance. Marissa Cofield, a Cadette Girl Scout, was the guest speaker.
