Workers have been putting up smoking shelters, preparing for the bone-chilling months ahead — the first winter smoking has been banned in Grand Forks bars.

Cigarettes and booze for the smoker is like mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, milk and cookies, lox and bagels and all the many things that go so well together that they make each other better.
It’s no wonder that a vast majority of Grand Forks’ population of smokers also hit the bars.

Hold on to your wallets, smokers. On the heels of President Obama’s expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, or SCHIP, by taxing cigarettes an additional 62 cents a pack, the Minnesota Legislature is looking to add another dollar per pack to the cost of lighting up.
