State regulators are asking developers of a coal mine in southwestern North Dakota for more information in their permit application.
The state’s Public Service Commission said South Heart Coal’s application lacks detail on several topics including financing, reclamation, and impacts to water and wetlands.
A Texas company has applied for permission to open a coal mine in southwestern North Dakota to fuel a hydrogen-to-electricity factory.
South Heart Coal LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Houston-based Great Northern Power Development, applied on Monday for a state mining permit that would cover 4,581 acres near South Heart.

The South Heart City Council has passed an ordinance restricting noise between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.
The ordinance was opposed by the owner of the bar in the southwest North Dakota town. Mike Sticka, owner of the I Don’t Know Bar, said it might mean the end of his business. He says he plans to take every citation to court.
