Never mind Byron Dorgan’s leadership of the Red River Valley Research Corridor.
His power to fund much-needed flood protection projects in communities across North Dakota.
His advocacy for Indian affairs issues and expertise on energy policy.
Or, any of the accomplishments North Dakota’s Democratic senator could name after serving 30 years in the U.S. Congress.

Jamestown Public Schools, like other districts in the state, said individual classrooms and teachers will air President Barack Obama’s speech today if they choose. The district did the same practice last year.
The president plans to address school children today in his second annual Back to School speech. Some feared last year’s speech would push Democratic politics, but the president mostly advocated students push themselves to perform well and that the future of the country rests on the students and their studies.
Clare Geinert of Edgeley, N.D., came home from the state tournament a winner on April 24 after placing first in humorous interpretation with an excerpt from Shelley Berman’s book, “A Hotel Is a Very Funny Place.” She also placed third in dramatic interpretation with a monologue from the off- Broadway musical “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” by Joe DiPietro.
In case you missed it, the Jamestown Blue Jays speech team had a very nice season which ended with a successful staging of the state meet at Jamestown High School on Saturday. Visitors from the Class A schools around the state were very complimentary about the facility, the organization of the meet and the welcoming spirit of the hosts.
