Last year, the 20th annual Help Offer Private Education (HOPE) Dinner and Auction netted $87,000, helping St. John’s Academy in Jamestown keep student tuition down and enabling it to buy new technology.
St. John’s United Methodist Church, Wimbledon, N.D., will have its annual church supper and bazaar from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 18. The bazaar — featuring baked goods, garden produce and crafts — opens at 3:30 p.m.
The members of St. John’s Lutheran Church invite all children ages 4 through sixth grade, to attend vacation Bible school. St. John’s is located at 424 First Ave. S. The theme this year is “PandaMania!”
Karin Gunderson will perform “Heavenly Harp” at three different venues on Sunday.
She will play at the 8:30 a.m. worship service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 523 Fourth Ave. S.E., and a concert at 2 p.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church, 1009 12th Ave. N.E. She will also present a concert at 7 p.m. in St. John’s Lutheran Church, 424 First Ave. S., with fellowship and snacks to follow.
The Fat Tuesday spaghetti feed is from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Academy in the Zebedee Center.
Tickets are available at the door or from St. John’s Academy students. The cost is $4 for students, $6 for adults and $24 for a family.
On Tuesday, the St. John’s Academy PTO will be welcoming the nationally known presenters, “Bucket Fillers,” for a presentation for students and parents titled “Bucket Filling.” The presentations are part of the school’s goal to create a “bucketfilling” school, a school where everyone is kind, responsible and respectful of others.

So, how long will the St. John’s players be allowed to celebrate Sunday’s 93-78 victory over No. 3 Duke — a game that wasn’t as close as the final score indicated?
St. John’s Lutheran community of faith will be gathering for Christmas Eve candlelight services with Holy Communion at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Friday. Special music will be provided at both services. During the 4:30 p.m. service, Matt Odin will be singing “O Holy Night.” Amy Batesole and Shar Gumke will be singing “Night of Silence/Silent Night” at the 6:30 p.m. service. The 4:30 p.m. service will be aired over radio station 600 AM later that evening at 8.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at the 9 and 11 a.m. worship services Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, which is All Saints’ Sunday. The service is to remember and celebrate the lives of saints, the children of God who have died in the faith, and share in the resurrection with the Lord.
