Senators compete to succeed Stenehjem
BISMARCK — Four North Dakota Republican state senators are competing to succeed Bob Stenehjem as the Senate’s GOP majority leader, and an election is expected before the Legislature’s special session begins in November, lawmakers said Thursday.
Rich Wardner, of Dickinson; Tony Grindberg, of Fargo; Dick Dever, of Bismarck; and Jerry Klein, of Fessenden, are seeking the job, the men said in interviews with The Associated Press.

Hundreds attend Stenehjem funeral
BISMARCK — The funeral of Senate Majority Leader Bob Stenehjem reflected how he lived: passionate for the outdoors, surrounded by fellow public servants and filled with his family’s sense of humor.
About 1,000 government officials, colleagues, friends and family attended Stenehjem’s funeral on Monday at Bismarck State College’s National Energy Center of Excellence.

Hundreds pay their final respects to Bob Stenehjem
BISMARCK — About 700 people paid their final respects to Senate Majority Leader Bob Stenehjem at a rare event in the Capitol on Sunday.
The funeral visitation in the Senate chamber marked the final time the leader will enter the room he’s guided for the past decade.
State officials, lobbyists, constituents, friends and well-wishers from across the state waited in a long line streaming outside the chamber to say good-bye to Stenehjem.

N.D. Senate majority leader killed in crash
North Dakota Senate Majority Leader Bob Stenehjem was killed in a single-vehicle accident Monday while on a fishing trip in Alaska.
Stenehjem, 59, was near the Alaska community of Homer on the state’s south coast. He had been visiting his older brother, John, and his son, Rob, both of whom live in Alaska, said state Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem, who is Bob Stenehjem’s brother.
